Fabulous Finds Friday

Currently listening to: Bennie & the Jets [Elton John]

Today is the day that I get to show off all of my recent finds.! Aren't you excited? I know I am.

Alright, first up is the filing cabinet I scored from Craigslist for a whopping $20.

Shazam!
This baby just needs a makeover, that's all. A little paint, some kind of something modpodged to it and it'll be the prettiest eyesore ever. Speaking of eyesores, did you catch a glimpse of the pink wall there behind it? Oh and the lovely lime green trim? Yeah. That's gotta go. Oh
! And look what I found when I removed the ginormous mirror from my dresser :

Know what this says to me? It says to me that when Mom was painting my room that horrendous shade of pink all those years ago, she either couldn't find the screwdriver so she could unscrew the mirror from the dresser and thus paint the wall behind the entire unit, or she was just too lazy. I'm betting on the latter.

Next up, PICTURE FRAMES! And not just any picture frames, no - AWESOME picture frames. And I got them for like $2.50 a pop.
oops. WTH Blogger? My Macbook shows the picture is vertical. Blogger doesn't seem to think so. My apologies, this picture just wasn't meant to turn out. But the picture I took of the certifiably bad-a mirror I found for $9 at Goodwill was! I plan on painting this baby black:Don't you love it? Once I free it from its terrible green prison its going to be one of my favorite pieces, I can tell. And see the bedspread in the reflection? (And myleg? And the crap I have hidden under the bed?). Black & white Damask print for the win!

So excited to get started on one or more of these projects this weekend. It *is* a 3-day weekend, after all. I should be able to accomplish something other than being a lazy bum and sending off the summer in style. ;)

Check back later for some updates.

Toodles ♥

Warning: Being MIA from the blogging world is hazardous to your health

Currently Listening to: We Can Work It Out - The Beatles
Time: 9:50pm
Mood: Exasperated

Warning: The following post won't make much sense to you. Its okay. Just go with it.

You really can't imagine what's gone on around here lately. Know how I said I'd get back into posting? Yeah. I lied.

As it turned out, blogging daily just wasn't in the cards for me. Want to know why? You do? Well let me tell you.

Boyfriend and I are no more.

True story. He had to go.

le sigh.

See, I was living with my boyfriend (big no-no, I am aware. Hindsight is twenty-twenty my friends) and our lease was coming to an end. We toyed with the idea of renting a house, but seeing as how its a buyer's market currently, my boyfriend decided to go ahead and buy a house. A house he wanted my help picking out.A house he wanted me to live in with him. So we found a house that was so incredibly adorable and perfect for us that we fell in love with it the moment we walked in the door. That's the picture up top. A charming three bedroom, two bath, suitable for a couple just like the two of us. And then, two weeks before moving day, it happened.

He lied. And I found out about it. At 6:30 in the morning no less. So I called my mom and between sobs asked to move home.

And here we are. "We", of course, being me; my two dogs;and my parrot. Along with all of the items I had accumulated while I lived with the boy, the dogs and the parrot and I are crammed into this tiny room. Wretched pink walls mock my very existence. The lime green trim I once loved makes me stomach turn. Boxes line the walls, pictures and wall art are leaning against the wall instead of hanging....my world has been turned upside down. I despise this.

While moving out isn't an option currently (I'll get to that at a later date), I'm going to make the best of being here. I've learned I have a bit of a knack for decorating and with creativity like mine, it'd be a sad thing to let it go to waste. So I've purchased new bedding, paint, and a few other items. I've been scouring Craigslist and Goodwill for furniture I can repaint and reuse. And you're all going on this journey with me.

From here on out, we're adding home decor to the list of crap I'll be blogging about. Why not?

[time lapse]

Its been three whole weeks since the breakup.

And guess what's happened since then.... Yup. You guessed it. He realized he "made a huge mistake and can't live without me". So we're going to try dating again. Every girl's dream, right? The guy that lies to your face for an entire month, gladly parts ways with you, them comes to the door crying, literally, crying and talking about what a mistake it was to let you go. My life is a friggin' fairy tale, let me tell you. Anyways, I'm giving him a second chance. Why, I don't know. The heart wants what the heart wants, but if he lies again...well, to the curb he goes!

First off, we won't be living together. He'll be required to court me again. As exciting as it is, and as pleased as I am to be doing things the right way, I hate that he's alone in the house I adored so much and I'm stuck living with my family at the age of 26 (the worst part of this is living under the same roof as my hormonal 17 year old sister. Talk about hell on earth. ha). But, we shall survive. Nothing worth having comes easily, right? Right.

Anyways, now that you know where I've been we can move on to better things. Like more nonsense from me in the future. I've got a dresser I have to give a complete makeover to, walls to paint (a beautiful turquoise color, might I add), a file cabinet to spruce up, and many more projects. I'm stoked. You should be too.

Taa-taa for now.

Urban Decay = Happiness

I made the mistake of stopping by Ulta on the way home from the gym yesterday. BIG MISTAKE. First of all, the saleswomen looked at me (and treated me) like I had no idea what I was doing and they circled me like vultures, more so than they would on any other day. "Are you doing okay?", "Are you *sure* I can't help you with anything", "let me know if you need me", "Need help picking anything out?" is what I heard every five minutes. In their defense, I *was* completely nudie-faced, my hair was peeled back giving me the appearance of a peeled onion, I probably smelled like a dirty armpit, and my clothes probably gave the impression that I had completed a shopping spree at Good Will (No, I do not wear my finest clothes to the gym just to get them stinky and gross). But holy crap, those girls were getting on my nerves.

Anyways, point of my Ulta tale is this:Urban Decay awesomeness! 16 eyeshadows, 2 eyeliners, a miniature vial of Primer Potion (which, by the way, everyone needs), a giant mirror I'll never use, and some useless booklet full of their "favorite model" sporting different looks that they don't give you instructions on . $48 dollars worth of gloriousness! Can't wait to go to town with this stuff.

Here's the first eyeshadow look I went with:
Before you ask - No, those are not false eyelashes, those are my own. I was blessed in that department :) (though probably to make up for my awkwardness, clumsiness, and small boobs).

For this look I used Sellout, YDK, and Twice Baked, as well as a lite sweep of Midnight Cowboy Rides Again. Swatches:
No Flash
Natural Light:

The colors go on smoothly and have awesome staying power when paired with the Primer Potion. But ya'll already knew that one ;]

Stay tuned for more randomness from moi

Stay Classy,
XOXO

Pinup Photos

Missy edited just a few of a million of the photos we took on Saturday night. I went over to her place around 7pm. She did my makeup and slapped a Betty Paige wig on my noggin. My dog and I posed up a storm and 4 hours later, we finally finished. It was such a blast. Here is a small sample of what came out of our photoshoot:
The Betty Paige wig completely changes my appearance. I cant even believe that is me! Ha! I can't wait to see the rest.

Anyways, just a quick update. Back to work I go.

Stay tuned for more nonsense from yours truly,
XOXO

BFTE Beauty Brigade Review #1

Hey loves! Check out what I got in the mail on Friday! How awesome is it that I was chosen to be part of Beauty From The Earth's BEAUTY BRIGADE? I'm stoked. In all honesty, I had no idea that I was even being chosen. On BFTE's facebook page, their status had said that if you received an email with a tracking number, then you'd been selected. I however, never found one of those emails in my inbox. But Friday when I got home from work, and offical BFTE package was waiting for me. Inside was a letter of instruction as well as a lipgloss and a pot of mineral blush.

First, the lipgloss. Initial thoughts? LOVE IT. Its not a color I would have picked out for myself, but I'm so glad they sent it to me. There's no name to it, and I'm not sure how to explain it to ya'll, but its kind of a neutral rose-ish color. It goes on smoothly and doesn't feel sticky at all. I was scared it would, because in the letter it is described as a product "designed for people who like the feeling of a sticky gloss". Well, I am not one of those people. I like glosses, just not sticky ones. But this is quite the opposite of sticky. I squeezed it on my lips without issue and made my lips feel hydrated and smooth. Paired with a neutral colored lip liner, the gloss is PERFECT!

However, there were a couple of negatives to this product. When I first tried to squeeze a bit out, the top portion acted as though it was going to shoot off, and trust me, I used minimal pressure. A little gloss came out the side too. I have to be extra careful when squeezing the package. It doesn't seem to last very long, but then again, I have yet to come across a gloss that lasts. I suppose that's the nature of the beast. Lastly, the smell is kind of offputting. I can't really describe it... It smells like a mixture of vaseline and.. I can't place the smell... Its like a cleaning product of some sort. Either way, not a smell I would associate with something I'd like to smear all over my mouth. Just sayin'.

I do like it. And have been using it daily since I received it and will most likely continue to use it until I run out.

I don't have a lot of experience with mineral blushes, to be perfectly honest, but I really enjoyed playing with the blush BFTE sent me. Its a little light for my complection, or perhaps I only think that because the mica make the light bounce off these chubby cheeks of mine a little more than I'm used to.

I like wearing mineral makeup on lazy days. Days when I don't feel like busting out the foundation, eyeshadow primer, or the eyelash curler. Luckily, God blessed me with huge eyes and lengthy eyelashes, so I like to play them up and go the more dramatic route makeup wise. Mineral makeup is helping me embrace the more natural look (even though I refuse to skimp on the mascara and liquid eyeliner. lol)

See what I mean about the blush not being "my color"? Seems a little too Barbie Pink for my face. Yikes... I'll probably save it for times when I go on my tanning hiatuses (yes, I tan. And YES, I know its horrible for my skin. Its like an addiction at this point - I HATE being pastey white!)

In other news, I did my first pinup photoshoot with Missy from Miss Missy's Photography last night. It was more fun than I would ever have imagined. I don't wanna go into too much detail, but I'll post some pictures up when she finishes editing them! :)

Keep on keepin' on ladies!
XOXO
